Currently Listening To

I have been hooked on a few certain songs recently (some current and some old faves) and I thought I would share them. And in return, if you have an awesome song that I just have to hear, please share it with me! I love all types of music. No discrimination here. I can find a song to love from every artist and band.

My Top 5 Fall Nail Polish Shades for 2014

Yes, I have pictured five nail polishes here, but I am focusing on the actual color family. The nail polishes pictured just happen to be among some of my favorites in said shades! I never thought I would see the day where I love nail polish so much, but painting my nails has become somewhat cathartic. Give me a pamper session with a face mask, bubble bath, and nail polish any day!

Deep Purples - Purple is such a great color for fall, especially the richer shades.
Burgundy and Reds - I love true red nails in summer, but I lean more for the burgundy side of the spectrum come fall.
Jade - Jewel tones in fall will never go out of style.
Pinkish Nude - Like a red nail, nude will always be a classic. A year-round staple for me.
Shimmery Dark Blues - Regular dark blues are fine, but I think they look even better with some shimmer.

I find that a lot of my choices in beauty mimic what I find myself gravitating to in my wardrobe this time of year!

My Day at the Summer Fair: 2014 Toronto CNE

This post was a bit delayed as I went to the fair two weeks ago, but it is up now! The CNE, the Ex, the Canadian National Exhibition, whatever you want to call it...it signals the end of summer around here. It's the last hoorah of the short summer season! I thought I would share a few pictures from our day at the Ex. Looking back, I wish I had taken more pictures but at the same time, I really just took the time to enjoy my day with my husband eating fattening fair food, walking until our feet ached, and taking in all of the really awesome experiences!

Top Left: The acrobatic show was called Mirage. It was very entertaining. There was one part where this guy was dancing and holding lasers, a total trick of light that I am still trying to figure out!

Top Right: Ah, fair food. For lunch, I had a shawarma and poutine. I also tried my first Tiny Tom Donuts (a Toronto cult classic) and BeaverTails pastry.

Bottom Left: Butter sculptures! How cute is this Scrat one?!

Bottom Right: We finally got our names on a Coke can! See below.

My Favorite F/W 2014-15 Trends

My favorite trends are the ones where you can shop your closet. I love the classic pieces that always come back into style. I am not shelling out $3,000 for a coat that looks like Big Bird just because it is the "in" thing. Nope, not happening! Here are my favorite trends coming up. I'd love to hear what trend you are looking forward to rockin' this upcoming season!

1. Fair Isle Sweater (via Net-a-Porter) - I love Fair Isle sweaters! The pattern always looks good.

2. Sneakers (via Net-a-Porter) - Yes, comfy shoes for the win!

3. Shearling (via River Island) - You can choose to go all out or have it on accessories.

4. 60s Mod (via Forever 21) - So flattering, especially in dresses!

5. Gold (via Tiffany & Co.) - Hardware on your accessories, gold sweater, whatever. It's a hot color right now.

6. Fun Caps or Shirts (via Nelly) - Novelty prints and sayings are still popping up. Keep those graphic shirts out!

7. Chunky Knits (via Piperlime) - Is there any better feeling on a cold day than cozying up in a knitted sweater or scarf?!

My Day Has "Apparently" Been Made

This kid, you guys. This kid. He's perfect. If he doesn't grow up to be a comedian, he will have missed his calling in life. I was laughing until there were tears in my eyes! I hope Ellen has him on more often, because this was pure gold.

Date Night: Don Mills VIP Cineplex Theatre

When I first heard that a theatre was opening at the Shops at Don Mills, I was ecstatic. It is one of my favorite places to shop. It's a fully outdoor mall and there is such a variation of stores and restaurants offered. So the VIP Cinemas just opened up and I knew that I had to go! Many of the blog posts on this have involved bloggers having been invited to events to celebrate the opening. I was not invited to these and went with my own Scene points and money. I just want to give my GTA (general Toronto area) readers a heads up on this glorious place!

 Keep reading to hear more of my experience, see the in-seat menu, and more. Pictures were taken with my phone, so nothing special. It was date night, so you know... ;)

Happy 7th Birthday, Fashionable Heart!

Wow! I started this blog on September 7, 2007. I originally just wanted something to do during the day, something that would get my mind off of my grandmother who had just died, and just a little place to write about whatever I wanted. I wasn't sure how long I would keep at it and to be honest, I certainly didn't think I'd still be here this far down the road.

But I love this site and I love blogging. I still enjoy taking the pictures, reviewing products, and sharing a little about my life. And although it is often cringeworthy, I enjoy looking back and seeing things I've done or bought and seeing how this blog has grown. It's all about growing with your blog and never making it something that you don't love!

I'm especially lucky because this blog and my subsequent social media accounts has really brought some special people and opportunities into my life. When I moved to Canada in 2004, I became the "new girl" for the first time and had very few friends to call my own up here. Coming from a small city where everyone knows everyone, this was crippling for me to deal with for a very long time. Fast forward to now and I have made a few friends in this city that I would not have known had I not started blogging and putting myself out there a bit on social media.

I put all that I can into this blog. Sometimes my updates slow down when life catches up to me, but that is bound to happen. I'm always thinking of new ideas and what to share on here. I still try to comment on other blogs and respond to comments on my own. I also never want you to think that I am "too big for my britches" and if I ever come off that way, give me a virtual slap. Please keep it virtual, though. I have sensitive skin! ;)

Thank you to all of my readers who have been here since day one and those that just popped in for the first time. The fact that you visit my blog and read things I say and see pictures that I take...well, I can't put it fully in words just how much it means to me. I wish I could give you all a hug or high-five (if you're not a hug person).

Here's to seven years of memories and to making even more!

August 2014 Favorites

Yay, it's September! That means it is the month of my absolute favorite season- autumn. Bring me all of cardigans, boots, and pumpkin everything. All of it! I have been craving the crisp breezes and sweater weather. I know I'm southern and you're scratching your head, but let me tell you, this girl here was not made for heat and humidity. Give me fall and winter any day. Guess I moved to the right place when I came to the Great White North!

Finger Lickin' Lacquer in Ice Wine - Yes, this is my BFF's company but I promise I'm not biased! I get compliments on this color every time I wear it!

Smashbox Blush Rush in Flush - I always come back to this. The glow it creates is so natural.

Barry M Dazzle Dust in 51 (Mushroom) - I love Barry M pigments. This is a beautiful taupe.

Lancome Grandiose Mascara - My newest favorite! The wand and formula = perfection.

Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Stray Dog - My HG eyeliner. I wish it was permanent, but it often comes back in their eyeliner sets!
