Revlon Lip Butters: Review and Swatches

I own twelve of these. Yes, perhaps excessive but I only buy them when they are on sale. While I like these enough to buy so many shades, I would not pay full price for them. I will go into why in this post and share my swatches of the ones I own.

^ Left to Right: Cupcake, Cotton Candy, Strawberry Shortcake, Sweet Tart, Lollipop, Peach Parfait, Creamsicle, Creme Brulee, Tutti Frutti, Cherry Tart, Berry Smoothie, and Sugar Plum.

To see more pictures, please keep reading.

Why will I not pay full price? Because these can wreak havoc on my lips if I forget to wear a thick layer of lip balm underneath. The days that I forget to apply my Nivea Kiss of Moisture lip balm under them are the days that my lips start peeling. My lips will be fine that morning, but by that night it is a different story. I'd really suggest wearing a balm underneath to provide moisture. That's my biggest criticism.

Another criticism is that I found the nuder shades (Creme Brulee, Creamsicle, Peach Parfait) to have a bit of a hard layer on top. Maybe it was just the batches that I got, but once I broke through the top layer it seemed to correct itself.

These are meant to be on the sheer side, but I find them easy to build up in color. Some are much more pigmented than others, such as Lollipop and Tutti Frutti. I do love the color options and think that there is at least one shade that will catch your eye. My favorites are Lollipop, Cupcake, and Creamsicle. Also, I do not detect a smell on these.

I think these are worth a try, especially if you like just a sheer wash of color on your lips. I don't think that they are as moisturizing as Revlon claims them to be. They do glide on smoothly. Worth the hype? Not completely.

I'm sorry these made your lips dry!! With me, they do a good job moisturizing already moisturized lips, but they haven't ever cracked mine! :(

I totally agree that they leave your lips feeling so dry! I have to use my Nivea lipbalm too! I was so disappointed when I felt my lips chapping since I expected so much and everyone seemed to love it! Lovely collection though--wish I had the will to collect all =D

I only purchased two,Red Velvet & Pink Truffle. I didn't feel the need to layer lip balm underneath RV,but I had to under pink truffle. I thought that was a bit strange. I think they are ok for the price ( I paid about $3/each), but again "over hyped". =o)

i own 12 as well.. but i got them with sales and gifts ;D i love them personally and i totally agree with you on the point that you need a lipbalm underneath! but i think after that, its good for the day and the wear lasts pretty long ;D

I agree about the lip butters not being worth the hype! They're definitely not as special as everyone is putting them out to be.

I like to use them once in a while when I just want a wash of color, but I don't really care for the texture.

I like these :) I would only buy them on sale, but only because they seem to go on sale so often, so why not wait?

Just discovered your blog after looking for Archie's Girls posts. I went to the same event that night! It was disappointing that they sold out of some items so quickly but I'm glad I ordered them online beforehand. Love your blog keep up the good work girl! I love finding blogs from fellow Gta girls :) random question though but where did you get the lipstick organizer in this post? I bought a tiered one from winners but I want a level one that will fit in my Alex drawers

@Rachel - When I got there, they'd sold out of Ronnie Red and Betty Bright lipsticks. Thank you for the compliment! Ah, I have a small Alex organizer and this one fits like a dream into one of the drawers. It's the Godmorgon box with compartments from Ikea! I have a few small tiered ones from Home Outfitters that I use in another one of the drawers that fit well also. I line them up three wide. :)
