2017 Oscars Best Dressed

I don't watch awards shows live, if at all. They really have to appeal to me and I had much rather tape them and watch them after the fact, because me and my fast forward button are BFFs. But if I do any of that, it is typically awards shows focused on music and not TV and/or movies. That's just my preference. I'll catch up on social media to see the highlights and any performances I missed after the fact. Like this year's amazing Justin Timberlake opening or that big "whooooaaaa, what just happened?" moment at the end.

But honestly, I'm all about the fashion when all is said and done. And these five ladies below nailed it, in my opinion. I'd love to know who made your best dressed list!

  • Emma Stone - Wearing a gold gown by Givenchy Haute Couture, Emma was glowing. This worked perfectly with the bigger waves in her hair for a retro vibe. My only complaint is that I wish she hadn't thrown shade in her interview afterward about the envelope fiasco. It seemed so unneeded.
  • Hailee Steinfeld - This Ralph & Russo gown is sheer perfection. See what I did there? I'm living for the lavender and flowers.
  • Viola Davis - Words cannot describe how much I love this woman. And she picked a real winner with this red Armani Prive gown. That neckline and the draping is something special.
  • Kate McKinnon - How has she not made more best dressed lists? I think she looks stunning in this sequined black number by Narciso Rodriguez.
  • Taraji P. Henson - Va-va-voom, am I right?! The blue velvet Albert Ferretti gown fitted Taraji like a glove. That giant diamond choker and bombshell hair is all that was needed for an added impact on the red carpet. I think Fergie has a song about her: G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S.

2017 Golden Globes Best Dressed

I'm late on this post, but I usually share my thoughts on the best dressed and I am one who enjoys tradition. I did stop doing the worst dressed version a year or so ago, as I chose to not focus on the negative. Fashion should be fun and you should be allowed to take risks. Maybe you like something that others don't. That's okay!

Same can be said with the best dressed. Maybe you don't like some of my personal choices for best dressed. It's all personal opinion. But I don't want to bring attention to or say something is horribly bad that a designer worked so many hours on and that a celebrity and many others happen to love. You start questioning your taste and it can feel very polarizing. So I focus on the positive and here I am to share with you my favorite looks from the 2017 Golden Globes!

  • Emma Stone in Valentino Haute Couture - My favorite of the night. Those stars and that pale pink!
  • Brie Larson in Rodarte - Red hot! I love the drapey layers and that bodice. Simple, but far from basic.
  • Zoe Saldana in Gucci - I didn't like it upon first sight, but it really grew on me. It's practically Hermione from the Yule Ball. I'm soooo okay with that!

  • Hailee Steinfeld in Vera Wang - I love lilac. It was one of my wedding colors! A bit risque on top as an unexpected touch!
  • Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad - Full on princess, like straight out of a Disney movie. The amount of detail is just right.
  • Millie Bobby Brown in Jenny Packham - Age-appropriate and stunning. Completely suits her sparkling personality!

  • Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford - Mr. Suit & Tie! I love that charcoal jacket.
  • Donald Glover in Gucci - A brown velvet suit? It has some retro vibes going on and he really makes it work.
Whose style did you love on the 2017 Golden Globes Red Carpet? And can I just also mention how Tracee Ellis Ross wins with all of the bling she was rocking?! More is more sometimes!

2016 Tony Awards: Best Dressed

The Tony Awards! I am such a play and musical lover. I'd see every show ten times over if I could. It has always been a dream of mine to perform on Broadway. What a fun experience that would be! It is such a welcoming community not only for the performers, but for the fans.

This year has produced some strong shows with The Color Purple, Hamilton, and more. And better yet, some fashion stars! Look at these beautiful gowns worn by some of Broadway's leading ladies. Did you have any favorites? I'd love to hear!

  • Jane Krakowski in Michael Kors - Red hot! Does she even age?!
  • Danielle Brooks in Derek Lam - Embracing those curves in all of the right ways.
  • Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Zuhair Murad - I'm never one to turn away from sequins and I'm glad she didn't either.

Best Dressed: Oscars 2016

The Oscars were this past weekend, honoring some of the top entertainment of the year. I honestly only taped it to fast forward to the music performances. And to see Star Wars, Minions, and Toy Story skits, which were adorable. Then, Lady Gaga moved me to tears with her powerful song "Til It Happens to You". It's not that I am not interested in the awards parts, I had just rather find out who wins online and not sit through speeches unless it's something or someone I really like. Anyone else like that?

Here are five of the looks that I loved!

fashion, style, oscars 2016, best dressed, celebrities, red carpet, women, lady gaga, olivia munn, cate blanchett, chrissy teigen, jennifer lawrence, fbloggers
  • Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture - Love this! So sexy, but on the demure side of the equation.
  • Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive - This is something I wouldn't normally like, but the color is beautiful and it's not overdone.
  • Olivia Munn in Stella McCartney - Olivia and bright colors are a friendship made in heaven. I can't think of anyone right now who looks better in orange!
  • Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell - If Brandon keeps designing like this, he'll be seen more on the red carpet in the future. I only wish the top part was a little different.
  • Chrissy Teigan in Marchesa - Chrissy knows how to dress her bump. The color, fit, and design is perfect. And I love that she didn't over accessorize. The dress shines on its own!

Best Dressed: 2016 Grammy Awards

The Grammy Awards were this week and they did not disappoint with the fashion and musical tributes and performances. It's unreal to sit there and realize just how many talented people have passed on in the past year. I enjoyed most of the performances and agreed with most of the winners. Though I do feel sorry for everyone who got glitter bombed during Taylor's performance, as I am sure they are still finding specks days later!

bbloggers, bbloggersca, fbloggers, fashion, style, celebrities, red carpet, 2016 grammy awards, best dressed
  • Taylor Swift in Atelier Versace - I wish the skirt part was a little different, but I love the brights. And the new hair with Anna Wintour vibes.
  • Selena Gomez in Calvin Klein - The fit and the sparkles. I love that she didn't over-accessorize.
  • Chrissy Teigen in Yousef Al-Jasmi - Yes, girl. Dressing that bump up right.
  • Ellie Goulding in Stella McCartney - Looks so lovely from the front, but the draped chains in the back gave it the edge that she is known for.
  • Kaley Cuoco in Naeem Khan - I love the sparkly white jumpsuit. It's sexy in the all of the right ways.
Who's outfit did you love?

On an unrelated note, I am so saddened by the death of Harper Lee. I just mentioned that I got Go Set a Watchman for Valentine's Day and that To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorites. I'm sure this hits home with many people. Maybe she did not write a plethora of novels, but what she did write was a masterpiece. If for some reason you have not read To Kill a Mockingbird or seen the film, I highly suggest both. Now to go brew myself a cup of coffee and start reading Go Set a Watchman...

Best Dressed: Golden Globes 2016

Another awards show, another red carpet. Here are the looks that I enjoyed on Sunday night!

fashion, style, red carpet, awards show, best dressed, golden globes, 2016, bbloggers, bbloggersca, fbloggers, celebrities
  • Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture - Red hot! The diamond choker was the perfect addition.
  • Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace - I love how she has been going simple (for her!) with that one "oomph" detail.
  • Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Zuhair Murad Couture - I love celestial dresses. So dreamy!
  • Saoirse Ronan in Yves Saint Laurent Couture - The cape on this Grecian-style dress is lovely, as are the simple details.
  • Brie Larson in Calvin Klein - I kind of wish she'd went with a different hairstyle, but the dress is stunning.
Whose look did you enjoy at the Golden Globes?

My Best Dressed List for the 2015 Emmys

Oh my gosh, this year's Emmys looks were AMAZING. There were a few risks that paid off, but I found my eye wandering more toward the simplistic gowns with that one detail that makes you go "oooooh". Not that I am one to turn away from shiny pretty things either. Kudos to these celebs for looking put together on a hot day, because I would have looked like a puddle of mascara, sweat, and hairspray.

  • Kerry Washington in Marc Jacobs - Easily my favorite of the night. It stood out from the rest in all of the best possible ways. Armor for our head of the "gladiators"!
  • Amy Poehler in Michael Kors - The simple styling of the hair and accessories with the cutouts is what wins. Easy and breezy.
  • Sarah Hyland in Zac Posen - Love the neckline and how it continues to the back.
  • Aubrey Plaza in Alexandre Vaultier - I love the red sparkles against the black fabric. And just enough skin is showing.
  • Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell - Classy and elegant. The side embellishment made this more than a basic LBD.
  • Gina Rodriguez in Lorena Sarbu - I look at this and think of clouds or cotton candy. So ethereal! The only thing I am on the fence with is the red clutch.
Who stole the show for you?

Best Dressed: 2015 Tony Awards

I love Broadway! I have gone to a few shows when they have traveled here and one day I'll get to NYC and see one on actual Broadway. Life goal! This year's red carpet was full of beautiful gowns and I have picked five that caught my eye. Now, as I type this, I'm just going to listen sing at the top of my lungs to a few of my Broadway soundtracks and relive the experiences.

Give me musicals all day, every day.

  • Elisabeth Moss in Oscar de la Renta - Spring and summer in one gown! So colorful in the right way.
  • Jennifer Lopez in Valentino Haute Couture - A little dark for this time of year, but breathtaking. And a demure turn from her usual red carpet style.
  • Joan Smalls in Givenchy - That leg! A busy print done right.
  • Helen Mirren in Badgely Mischka - Dame Helen has such style! Does she even age? Love those lace sleeves.
  • Amanda Seyfried in Oscar de la Renta - An unexpected short length and I like it. It still looks elegant and suitable for the event.
And I always like to include a little eye candy...

Nick Jonas in Louis Vuitton - I was never a Jonas Brothers fan, but Nick has won me over. His current album, his role in Hawaii Five-0, the fact that he did the Niagara Falls NYE show, and how fabulous he rocks a tuxedo!

2015 Academy Awards: Best Dressed

I can't wait to fast forward to all of the highlights I am interested in like Lady Gaga performing songs from one of my favorite movies, Meryl Streep being fabulous as always, and Adele Dazeem getting back at Glom Gazingo for butchering her name. I'm back to routinely share my favorite dresses and eye candy. And as a bonus, one of my favorite red carpet moments!

  • Rosamund Pike in Givenchy - I don't usually like her choices, but this fits and suits her perfectly.
  • Jennifer Aniston in Versace - I love that she's stepping out of her comfort zone a bit more.
  • Anna Faris in Zuhair Murad - The right amount of sparkles and the belt is finally done right!
  • Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent - Red hot! And the makeup is perfection.
  • Anna Kendrick in Thakoon - That embellished choker collar is to die for. This dress is just peachy!

  • Ansel Elgort in a black and blue Prada tux - I love black and blue together.
  • David Oyelowo in maroon Dolce and Gabbana - An unexpected pop of color done successfully.
  • Chris Pratt in a classic Tom Ford tux - Because classic never goes out of style. And because Chris Pratt, that's why.

This picture is everything! Emma Stone and Jennifer Aniston bear-hugging on the red carpet is exactly what I wanted and did not even know it. How can I get in on this friendship?!

Blithe Spirit ft. Angela Lansbury

My main Valentine's Day gift this year was tickets to see Blithe Spirit. I have been drooling at the mouth for tickets to see this play since I first heard it was coming to Toronto. Angela Lansbury is one of my favorite actresses, which I believe I have mentioned here before. And to hear she was going to grace the stage in my city? The stuff dreams are made of! I felt privileged just to be in the same room with her. Best Valentine's Day gift ever!

blithe spirit angela lansbury broadway play review
Angela stars as Madame Arcati and Charles Edwards stars as Charles Condomine. I don't watch Downton Abbey (though I should try it), but you might know Charles as Michael Gregson. The other stars include Sandra Shipley, Simon Jones (actor, not the cricket player), Jemima Rooper, and Charlotte Parry. This play is written with fast wit and conversation, which is the humor that I am most attracted to. And while it has been hinted that Coward did not much like Oscar Wilde, this play in particular reminds me very much of Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. That's not a bad thing at all, in my opinion.

I would be crazy if I did not say that Angela stole the show, but the actors around her did not crumble under her spotlight. They each held their own and did an amazing job. In another reminding, the maid Edith makes me think of Manuel from Fawlty Towers! Susan Louise O'Connor did a great job of portraying her. I would say that she and Angela were the two to get the loudest laughs from me, though I would also say there were rarely moments that I wasn't laughing or chuckling.

At 89, I am certain that Angela Lansbury kicked her leg up higher than I can during her seance dance. She moves and owns the stage no differently than she always has. If you did not know her age, you sure would not be able to guess it. It was an absolute pleasure to see her perform and I only wish that it had not been -6F outside, so that I may have met her at the stage door. It was truly an experience that I will never forget.

A quick play synopsis can be found on Wikipedia. This is playing in Toronto at the Princess of Wales Theatre until March 15. From Toronto, it will move to Washington, DC before ending. And let's all hope that it will tour again, because it is a masterpiece!

2015 Grammys : Best Dressed

Last night was the Grammy Awards and in true Wendy fashion, I recorded it. I am not sitting through 3.5 hours. Ain't nobody got time for that! By the time I have fast forwarded around the stuff that I am actually interested in, the show is only about an hour long. But I kept my eye on social media last night to keep track of the arrivals and only a few disappointed. Here are my top five that caught my eye in a good way!

gwen beyonce taylor jhene nick red carpet grammys best dressed 2015
  • Gwen Stefani in Atelier Versace - Love the jumpsuit and the nude lip. Such a different look for her!
  • Beyonce in Proenza Schouler - Beyonce's barely there makeup let the dress have the attention.
  • Taylor Swift in Elie Saab - Elie Saab sure is becoming a favorite of mine. Love the ombre!
  • JhenĂ© Aiko in Alberta Ferretti - I have no idea who she is, but the bodice of the dress is beautiful.
  • Nick Jonas in Versace - I love daring suits and this plaid suit and crisp white combo stands out and hits it on the nail.
Who got it right for you? Am I the only one who will only watch awards shows if I can record them?!

2015 SAG Awards Best Dressed

I'm going to do this awards fashion post a little differently. I'm only going to show my favorites, because honestly, there just weren't that many bad choices. Even those who chose daring looks pretty much got it right. So here are some of my favorite dresses from last night and I'd love to hear whose look you loved!

  • Emmy Rossum in Armani PrivĂ© - When the lights hit this dress? Droolworthy.
  • Lupita Nyong'o in Elie Saab - Any other time I might think this is too busy, but she pulls it off in the best way.
  • Julianne Moore in Givenchy - Redheads in emerald green will always be a winning combination.
  • Viola Davis in Max Mara - HOT! Perfect fit, perfectly accessorized, just perfect.
  • Emma Stone in Dior Couture - I love the risks that she takes. I am quite over the sheer look, but this works and pulls me back in.

Honoring Oscar de la Renta

Easily one of my most loved designers. When I think back to awards seasons, his creations were often among some of my favorites. I thought I would share a few of my favorite dresses in this post and I admit that it was hard to narrow it down to just these five. The world lost a lot of class and certainly a man who understands women (at least, close to it!).

RIP Oscar de la Renta

And if you don't believe he still had it, just look at his Spring 2015 Ready to Wear looks. Each one is absolutely breathtaking.

2014 Emmys: Best and Worst Dressed

The 66th edition of the Emmy Awards aired last night. Like with all awards shows, I taped them. I feel like that is one of the reasons the PVR was invented. Hello, fast forward button, my best friend forever! One thing that I do not want to fast forward through is the fashion. This year was impressive in that it was hard for me to narrow my best list down to just a few. The dresses were fabulous!

Here is my list for best and worst dressed. And as always, read until the end for the eye candy that I always provide you with. *wink wink*

Fashionable Heart | 2014 Emmy Awards Fashion
Julia Roberts in Elie Saab Couture - Such a fun dress! She very rarely lets me down. Always a pretty woman (see what I did there?).
Julie Bowen in Peter Som - Love this print!
Lucy Liu in Zac Posen - This just looks so gorgeous with her skintone and the gold accessories.
Heidi Klum in Zac Posen - I don't usually like Heidi's choices, but this looks perfect on her.
Fashionable Heart | 2014 Emmy Awards Fashion
Lena Dunham in Giambattista Valli - That look on Lena's face? Yeah, that's my face when seeing this dress.
Sarah Paulson in Armani Privé - I don't hate it, but it does make me think of 80s fashion.
Katherine Heigl in John Hayles - This dress ages her drastically.
Betsey Brandt in Alice + Olivia - And this one is too young. The length is a bit unflattering.
Fashionable Heart | 2014 Emmy Awards Fashion
Matt Bomer in Tom Ford - You're welcome.
