Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in OG Lolita

This is my first venture into Kat Von D's lip products, so I can't compare this new formulation to the old. Influenster kindly sent me the Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in OG Lolita to test and review. OG Lolita is just one of the 40+ shades in the Studded Kiss Creme lineup. The Studded Kiss Cremes are vegan and promise to be high-pigmented mattes with long wearing time. So what do I think of this formula and the shade OG Lolita? Let's find out!

Kat Von D describes OG Lolita as a dusty rose. That's pretty accurate. It's like Influenster knows me, because they absolutely sent me the shade I would have gravitated toward. You know it. I know it. I can't say no to a pink. This one swatches true to the color you see in the tube.

And about that packaging- it's easy to photograph and pretty to look at. I rather like the studded texture. I can find it easily in my bag and when I place it down on something, it doesn't roll off. I find the lid stays on well. It's pretty sleek and different.

I did see a few mixed reviews on the formula, which leads me to think some shades might be better than others. I found OG Lolita to be a beautiful shade and opaque after two coats. Though I also found it to drag on my lips during application. It didn't matter if I only used it or used a balm, primer, or lip liner first. I personally don't find this formula that creamy at all. It also flaked off on the bullet and my lips. If you look at the right side of my lips in my swatch below, you can see what I mean. As it stays on my lips, my lips do feel dry but it is slightly better with lip balm beneath. Lasting power averages at 4-5 hours for me.

I love the packaging. I love the shade. I even love the light scent, which does not last on the lips. I know this is supposed to be the new formula, but I honestly think it can be better. The flaking, dryness, and dragging on the lips makes it hard for me to want to reach for this in my makeup drawer. It's great that Kat Von D has provided people with a high-end vegan alternative. And the 40+ shades that are available? Amazing! I just think these are okay, but not great. Give me a creamier texture and then we're cooking with something!
