Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus (and iPhone 6 Comparison)

So I did it. I finally decided on what to do when my phone contract was up! I was with Telus for eleven years and they wanted me to up my bill by $20 each month or pay for a phone outright. I was told "Sorry, we can't offer you anything" and I heard them loud and clear. I said I would be switching carriers and I guess they should have listened too.

With my new plan, I have unlimited text and calling to both US and Canada (my two homes!). And there's 6 GB of data, up from my measly 500 MB I had from my last plan (which I never went over- I was basically the Grinch of data before). I'm paying a little more than before, but less than I would have had to pay at Telus and I'm getting more bang for my buck. So of course, I took advantage of ordering a new phone. It was $100 off when adding a monthly tab payment and I should be hearing about the VR headset in the next few weeks. Such a value!

So let me introduce you to my new baby addiction lifeline phone. It is a thing of beauty in person, let me tell you. I also have a few size comparisons of the Galaxy S8 Plus to my iPhone 6. I just got this last night, so this post is mainly my first impressions and a quick synopsis of how I feel about coming from iPhone for the past four years to Android.

I started my iPhone journey with the iPhone 4S. And coming from a Blackberry, I was so reluctant to give up my keyboard. I quickly adapted and there was no turning back, though I do admit that I still miss the keyboard sometimes. From the iPhone 4S, I moved on to the iPhone 6. I chose not to go with the Plus model, because I didn't want that big of a phone. The iPhone 6 compared to the 4S is a giant and I was happy with that. I'm still happy with that. And honestly, though it is a fair size bigger, the S8+ does not feel that different in my hands. Just longer and I don't mind that.

Because the Samsung S8+ and the iPhone 6 takes the same size SIM card, I'm able to keep the best of both worlds. I can switch when I need or want to, especially for editing purposes and the paid apps and filters that I have on my iPhone from over the years. Because of that, the actual software part of the switch did not seem intimidating. And I'm familiar with stock Android due to owning a Nexus tablet. But whoa whoa whoa, I tell you nothing prepared me for the amount of personalization the S8+ has given me.

Colors on the screen, fonts, where the apps go, you name it. I've been having so much fun exploring and seeing what all I am allowed to change. It has been time consuming to download all of my apps and sign back into all of them on a new device, but I am slowly getting there. The larger screen is gorgeous and makes my games and video viewing that much more enjoyable. It is a learning curve about figuring out where and how to hold it while doing so, though. And that fingerprint sensor on the back? Doesn't bother me. Maybe I hold my phone differently than the users complaining about it, but my finger finds it pretty easily. When it is in my right hand. Holding it in my left does make it more difficult.

I'm really happy with my choice. Having both Android and iOS is extremely beneficial on an editing standpoint, because I am very familiar with my Apple apps that I use and some are not on Android yet. When I'm home, it's easy enough to send myself the files back and forth. And the camera on the S8+? A dream. I'm pleased with it so far. I'm pleased with the whole phone so far. It's hard to put down to even type up this post! Just what I need...Ha!

If you're thinking of getting this phone, I think you'll love it. Don't be afraid of the size, because it really does not feel that big. Look above. It's just a little wider than my iPhone (including case). It's just so darn pretty. If a phone can be classified as sexy, this might be the sexiest. So so good. Those are my first impressions of my first day with my new Samsung S8+. No regrets so far!

And just in time for my new device, Yahoo! provided me with a car mount. This is my first car mount so if anyone has tips on where and how I should place it, I will happily accept them!
