Coastal Scents Haul

Currently have a song in my head: Alejandro by Lady GaGa
Currently doing: getting ready to go to my MIL's to work
Currently feeling: tired from the weekend

Coastal Scents had a sale this weekend for Black Friday and it was 25% off of your purchase. It actually ends tonight at midnight, so you still have time to take advantage of it! If you've been wanting to try their palettes and whatnot, now is your perfect opportunity! To my knowledge, that's the best sale they have had all year.

I had four things on my Christmas list, so I went ahead and got them. I told my husband about the sale, because why should he wait and have to pay more?! I'll still be waiting until we open gifts to play with them, of course. I actually don't mind knowing some of my presents. I absolutely despise surprises! I'm not crazy, I promise. :)

88 Pc. Ultra Shimmer Palette - You guys know I already have the matte version and I love it, so I'm looking forward to trying it out!

88 Pc. Warm Palette - I think I'm really going to enjoy this on those "neutral" days. I've been watching tutorials online with this palette and the colors are gorgeous.

Professional Camouflage Concealer Palette - I like the different shades in this, so that you can mix it to make the best shade. I plan on doubling the darker shades (that will get less use as a concealer) to contour my face.
TIP: Think about other ways to use your makeup. If you have something you don't think you can use, chances are you can come up with another way to use it! For example- that pink eyeshadow that makes you look like you are sick? Use it as a blush!

Pep Pink lip gloss - It's no secret that I love pink lips. Going through my collection, I came to realization that I don't have a true baby pink gloss. I'm hoping the picture shows the color as true-to-life!

I wanted to get this up today, so you will still have a chance to take advantage of the sale! I had my Lady GaGa concert on Saturday and I'll do my best to write a review on it this week with the setlist, opening acts, costumes, etc. Are any of you seeing her on this tour? She's so fabulous!

P.S.- I just want to add that this is my third order with this company. I've never been disappointed! Case in point, my order just went through today and I placed it online last night. It's shipping from Florida to Toronto and it's expected to get here by Wednesday! They are very quick to place the order and ship it out. They get a major thumbs up not only on quality, but on the ease of placing orders and speed of shipping.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Currently watching: YouTube videos
Currently thinking: which makeup look to do for Lady GaGa this Sat.!
Currently feeling: sleepy

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Americans! This is where it's nice to be married to a Canadian- I get two Thanksgivings every year. :) They celebrate in early October!

Since I'm technically a party of one up here, I'm going out or ordering in with my husband for some rotisserie chicken at Swiss Chalet. Yep, that's my grand plan. I have plenty to be thankful for this year and I've decided to make a small list that is related to this website (and YOU!).

~ I'm VERY thankful for those who visit my blog. I'm even more thankful for those that come here often and choose to follow it.

~ In the past month, three people in specific have paid me some of the best compliments that I have gotten on here. Those compliments did not go unnoticed and I am very touched.

~ I've gotten to know a few of you a bit more on here and I love it! Let's keep talking!

~ I'm very thankful for the attention that my blog has gotten. It has opened a few opportunities for me. I'm getting more hits everyday, as well. I work hard on this site and it just hits my heart every single time another person visits or another door opens. I plan to keep this site going for a long time yet and work even harder!

~ I'm thankful for having a place where I can talk about some of my favorite hobbies- makeup, fashion, shopping, hair, photography, skincare, technology, etc. Some people may not like that I don't make this strictly fashion or makeup, but those are just two of my loves and I like to shake it up a bit!

~ Thank you to my readers! Did I already say that?! Yes, I did...but it absolutely deserves to be said over and over again. You guys make this even better. I mean, otherwise, I'd just be sitting here talking to myself. Fun, but not as fun. :P Love you all!

Toronto IMATS Haul

Currently cooking: chili
Currently playing: with Windows 7
Currently feeling: sad

Time for my relatively small haul from IMATS! I say small, because you should have seen the amount that some people bought! I went in on a budget and knew what I could spend and I spent it with $3.08 to spare! There will be reviews, swatches, and whatnot on most (if not all) of the products I bought. I know IMATS is around the corner for some people, so I'm happy to let you know more about what to expect! Most of what I bought is from private labels that you can't buy in stores.

Everything together! Three palettes, two kabukis, five brushes, one pigment, two shadows, and a lipstick. :)

My first pigment from OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics). This is such a gorgeous color. I'll be sure to give a swatch or a FOTD with it! I really wanted a lip tar, but by the time I went all of the pretty colors that I wanted were gone. I'll either order it online or wait until next year's IMATS.

This is the only brush I purchased from Royal & Langnickel. It's not because there wasn't more that I liked, but because I had my mind set on something else to buy at a different booth. I am always in the need for more kabuki brushes, and this one was a steal at $4!

These are from Crown Brushes. They are all from their Luna Series except for the kabuki. The brushes are kabuki, an eyeshadow brush, crease blending brush, two lip brushes, and a flat bronzing brush.

I bought one empty eyeshadow palette from Auraline. My other palette is almost full, so I'll probably move into this one soon.

Both of these palettes are from Auraline. The first one is the neutral eye and the second one is the smoky eye. A few of the colors are duplicated in the palette, but because they are the highlighters or colors that I really like...I overlooked it. These eyeshadows are pro-sized, so they are going to last me a good while. Can't wait to start playing!

The Make Up For Ever line was not nearly as bad as I expected. I assume it's because I went on the last day and not so early in the morning. 40% off! I wish I could have gotten more, but a lot of things were sold out. I expected that and I'm quite glad, because I would have easily spent all of my money at that one booth! :)

The eyeshadows are #81 (Metallic Navy Blue) and #121 (Metallic Grape). I got the last blue one, so it must have been a crowd favorite! The lipstick was actually free with purchase and the color is #310 Copper Beige. I had a choice between two lipsticks and I went with the lighter one.

I had lots of fun at IMATS with my friends and I'm ready to start saving up for next year! Though I only have one beef with this year's IMATS...there was no MAC booth. They are one of the sponsors, but they were absent from the exhibitors. I really hope they are there next year!

IMATS Toronto Pictures

Currently smelling: a pumpkin spice candle! mmm...
Currently watching: Koren's IMATS haul on YouTube
Currently feeling: bad..stupid migraine

This is part one of my IMATS talk. Today will be some pictures from the event and tomorrow will be my haul. What a fun time! I'll warn you now that this is picture heavy. I had a great time and I'm already making plans and saving up for next year's event. I'll take my professional camera next time, as well. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to take it this year, so I was stuck using my Point & Shoot. Oh well! Stay tuned for tomorrow's IMATS Haul!

Look at all of that makeup! Don't you just want to kiss it?!

Not gonna lie...the baby was a bit creepy. That's only because the head was as big as my TV!

The student X-Men themed competition started their show for judging. This guy was an amazing model for his artist. He glided across the stage, acted pompous, and like an ape. It was A+!

I feel like this is the makeup that should have won. The costume, the effect, and everything put together was excellent.

This was third place. I thought the look was ok, but kind of basic. I liked the horseshoes used as weapons, though. Nice touch!

This was second place. It's an alright look, but compared to some of the others...In my personal opinion, I have no idea how this makeup got 2nd place compared to the looks it was going against.

The first place look took home $1000. Not a bad prize at all! Do I agree with the winner chosen? Not exactly. I felt like this look definitely should have placed, just not in first. Glad I wasn't a judge though, because they were all well done!

I filmed Koren (EnKoreMakeup on YouTube) filming Elessa (Pursebuzz on YouTube). I'm so lame. :)

I took in Elessa's Holiday Look class. She's so petite and tiny! The camera wasn't picking up the colors she was using during the tutorial, but I did see the look afterward off the stage and it looked lovely.

I was going to get a picture of Elessa and then hunt down Koren. He ended up coming right over, so it was the perfect moment to get a picture with them both. I was going to take it myself because I know which angles I (and everyone else) look better in. A girl offered to take it for me instead, so I reluctantly agreed. Unfortunately, she took the picture straight on. Seriously, who looks that great when a picture is taken like that? Not many! I appreciate her kindness to help, though!

There were a few body paint artists at the show, so I saw a few girls go by. I admire their self-esteem and willingness to walk around the show half-naked with only paint on their bodies. I blush at the mere thought! Kudos to them and the wonderful artistry represented!

Christmas Cards

Special post! Every year I have a Christmas card exchange. I'm quite happy to add more to the list! I know many are uncomfortable with things like this and I completely understand that. If you'd like to do an exchange with me, just email me your address and I'll respond with mine. :) And some prefer it to be one-sided in which they send to me, because they don't want one back. So let me know which you prefer! Looking forward to hearing from you! <3

wendy@fashionableheart.com

P.S.- I'm going to IMATS Toronto on Sunday! Stay tuned next week to hear about it! Plus, Monday might be an "off" day of blogging, because my husband is taking a day off. Yay!

Rimmel London Lipstick

Currently watching: Supernatural
Currently drinking: Diet Pepsi
Currently feeling: awake

Sorry this is a little late! I had a busy day with helping my MIL this afternoon and then I had a Jimmy Buffett concert tonight (which was amazing, by the way!). So here we go now!

In the past two months, I have purchased three Rimmel Lasting Finish lipsticks. They were on sale for about $3 each. A steal! I've tried Rimmel products in the past and have been impressed by their quality, so I had high hopes for their lipsticks. Celeb and Vintage are right up my alley with the pink tones, but Paradise was a little out of my comfort zone. I'll be honest in saying that I don't often reach for Paradise. It looks fine, but I just have not gotten used to it on my lips.

Paradise is a brownish-toned pink. It's a nice color for fall and winter! I think it would look great on those with warmer skin tones.

Vintage is such a pretty color! I normally pair NARS Orgasm on top. The golden pink color of Orgasm makes Vintage even prettier. It's my favorite of the three. Perfect for a pink nude lip!

Celeb is a vibrant pink. It's a lot of fun to play with! I don't wear it that often, because I do not usually wear a bright lip during the day.

Now onto other things that need to be said! The "long lasting" part of this lipstick is absolutely right. This lipsticks lasts for hours. I put the swatches below on my hand yesterday morning and washed my hands afterward. The lipstick was still on the back of my hand after soap and stayed there for about five hours with just a little fading!

Some people might complain about the smell being sickly sweet. I personally don't mind the smell. It smells a little like candy. It is very strong, though. If you don't like strong smells, this may not be a lipstick you should try. It's much stronger in scent than MAC's vanilla scented products.

Also the formula can be a little gritty during application. I find that some MAC lipsticks are the same way, so it's not a big deal. It doesn't change the application and look, but it can be a bit rough on the lips while applying. Oddly, even though it can be gritty feeling, it's also moisturizing at the same time. My lips feel very soft after I've had this lipstick on all day.

I really like the formula and shades! I see myself picking a few other ones out in the future, for sure.

Boots Botanics Makeup Remover

Currently watching: Rachael Ray Show
Currently upset: I've lost my small camera!
Currently feeling: loved

I bought the Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover not long ago. Boots is a UK company and I'm a sucker for all things from the UK. I can find a few things from the Botanics and No7 line here at Shoppers Drug Mart. In the States, I believe you can find them at Target. I think I spent $8 on it, which is a really good price! I almost did not buy this, because I rather like my Urban Decay Clean & Sober. However, I'm really glad I did purchase it because I think it's even better!

You don't need a lot of this product per use, just enough to dampen what you use to remove your makeup with. Something with cotton is preferred. A nice alternative to using it at room temperature is to stash it in the refrigerator before use. Now, as opposed to the Urban Decay one that smells absolutely lovely, this one is a bit strange in smell. If I had to describe it, I'd say it smells a bit like watered down bubble solution. Yes, the solution that you used to blow bubbles when you were a kid! It's not overwhelming and you do get used to it.

You can see on the left that it is a layered remover with a liquid and oil. On the right is after I have shaken it. To apply it, you first shake it to mix the layers. Put some on a cotton pad (or whatever you may use) and hold it on your eyes for a few seconds. Then, just swipe it down your eye gently and it completely removes your makeup. I have very sensitive skin and I've had no problem with this formula. This is the best makeup remover that I have used yet!

Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer

Currently doing: organizing my music
Currently excited: Christmas programs are starting!
Currently feeling: achy

My concealer collection consists of solid and thick concealers for maximum coverage, but I decided I wanted a light creamy one for the days that I just want light coverage. I wanted to see if I'd like the creamy ones first, so I bought the drugstore brand instead of MAC (or other high-end brand).

As you can see in the above picture, it is fairly creamy. That is the Fair color and I find it to be the perfect shade for me. I put it on with a damp sponge and then cover with my face powder. It does a great job at covering blemishes. It does a semi-good job for under the eye, but if you have really dark circles you will be better off with something that offers more coverage.

I can't remember how much I paid, because I think I got it on sale. I want to say it was around $5-8. In the picture below, you can see the size. It's about the same size as a MAC Lipglass bottle. A little goes a long way, so it's really worth it. I like this one so much that I'm not even sure that I want the MAC one anymore.

10 Questions Meme

Currently playing: Yacht on Facebook
Currently smelling: Body Shop's Coconut Body Butter...mmm.
Currently feeling: hopeful about seeing the meteor shower tonight!

I'm still at my MIL's house helping with Nan. My SIL and BIL have been on vacation for the past week and a half or so. Some of the posts I'd like to do will have to wait until I'm home again, because I didn't pack too many things while I'm here. It's only a five minute ride home, so why bring everything but the kitchen sink? :) I figure I haven't done a questionnaire in a while, so why not?!

If you want to do this, post your answers in the comments or on your blog! And link me to them, so I can read your responses!

1. Dramatic eye looks or Natural Eye looks?
Natural for most days. I like to save the dramatic looks for special occasions or for days that I'm just in a fun mood to experiment.

2. Matte or Shimmer Shadows?
I often use matte ones (like my Coastal Scents 88 Pc. Matte Palette), but I love a little shimmer sometimes. Or I make the matte ones shimmer a bit by adding a shimmery base.

3. Purple Pinks or Blue Greens?
Purple pinks. I love working with purple! I've done a few blue looks, but unless it's dark blue it's looks too 80s with my already blue eyes. I enjoy greens though!

4. Lips with gloss or without gloss?
Gloss! I'm a gloss fanatic. Unless a lipstick has a shiny-type finish, I always top it with lip gloss as well. I often just wear tinted lip gloss when I go out.

5. Contour Or Bronzer?
Contour. Even with my bronzer, I only mainly use it as a contour. I care more about shape than color on the face.

6. Nude lippies Or Pink Lippies?
How about a meet in the middle answer? A pink nude!

7. Coral or Pink Blush?
Pink. I have discovered that I don't exactly pull off coral that well. I'm also lazy and find that it is way too easy to overdo coral blush and I hate having to buff it in to make it look good. With pink, it's much easier to add more if needed. My opinion, of course!

8. Drugstore or Departmental Store Makeup?
A mixture of both. A great majority of what I own is department store, but many of my all-time favorites are drugstore brands. Contrary to what many might think, I'm not a makeup snob at all. If I like a product, it's because of the product and not because of the name stamped on it. For example- I'll take my L'Oreal Bare Naturale powder foundation over Bare Minerals foundation any day.

9. Sponge or Brush for LIQUID foundation?
Sponge. It works much better with my dry skin. I sometimes use a brush, but I prefer the final look that a sponge provides. I just dampen the sponge, stipple it on, and then rub in the foundation with the sponge.

10. TAG or Tutorials?
I like both. I don't mind doing tags or tutorials (even when I suck- haha!).
When tagged, I try to do them. And if I come across a look that I like, I'll post a tutorial (or at least a FOTD post). As far as YouTube goes, I've only done one tag video. I don't think I'm anywhere near good enough to post video tutorials. I'd rather not fuel the mean girls out there with reasons to ridicule me. Even some of the best artists get too many nasty and rude comments. It's just not right. :(

EcoTools Travel Kabuki Brush

Currently watching: Law & Order
Currently eating: bruschetta pizza
Currently feeling: sleepy

This brush is one of my newest holy grail products. It's extremely soft and dense, so it really holds the powder and doesn't scratch at the skin. The only thing travel size about this brush is that it has a smaller handle and case. The brush itself is a full-size kabuki brush. If I recall correctly, it cost me around $8 at Target.

The quality is fantastic. I have used it pretty much every day since I got it to apply my MAC MSF Natural face powder. I also use it to buff in my bronzer or blush. EcoTools is a fabulous brand that uses recycled and natural materials and is completely earth-friendly. I'm definitely buying more EcoTools products when I go home next month!

P.S.- Happy Friday the 13th! :)

EOTD!

Currently doing: watching YouTube videos
Currently thinking: how many text messages I may have on my uncharged phone :P
Currently feeling: worried

Thought I'd do another eye of the day. I'm at my MIL's so I only have the makeup I came here with. I only travel with neutral colors unless there is a special event planned. The crease is a bit darker in real life, but the flash washed the colors out a bit.

Items Used:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Benefit Creaseless Eyeshadow in Busy Signal as the base
MAC Wedge on the eyelid
MAC Handwritten on the crease
MAC Shroom as the highlight
MAC Handwritten for lining the bottom eyelash line
Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara

And on my lips (not shown), I paired it with a nude pink:

Hello Kitty Pink Fish Tinted Lip Conditioner
